After much thought and discussion, East End Food Institute has decided to host a virtual farmers market instead of an indoor, in-person format. The Virtual Farmers Market leverages East End Food Institute’s existing facility and operations infrastructure, plus investment in a new e-commerce software, to create security for vendors while the viability of an indoor market remains uncertain. The market will include a weekly order cutoff with pick-up at East End Food Institute at the Stony Brook University Southampton campus or home delivery via East End Food Institute’s refrigerated van for an additional fee to the customer.
A new e-commerce software system will launch in early November, but you can shop now at shop.eastendfood.org.
WHEN WILL THE VIRTUAL FARMERS MARKET BE ACTIVE?
The Virtual Farmers Market will be open year-round, but will be more heavily promoted to drive off-season sales between November 15, 2020 and May 15, 2021. The market is intended to complement (not compete with) seasonal outdoor farmers markets.
HOW WILL CUSTOMER ORDERS BE FULFILLED?
The weekly schedule will be as follows:
Sunday - Thursday: Customer Orders Accepted
Thursday at Noon: Customer Order Cutoff
Friday by Noon: Vendor Deliveries to East End Food Institute (Southampton)
Saturday 9:00am to Noon: Customer Pick-up at East End Food Institute
Saturday 1:00 to 5:00pm: Customer Home Delivery (from Southampton)
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE AS A VENDOR?
Any Long Island-based food, beverage, or craft producer may apply to be a vendor within the Virtual Farmers Market.
